KP cabinet approves Rs859.8m supplementary grant for TMAs

PESHAWAR: The provincial cabinet of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday approved the provision of 859.8 million supplementary grant for the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMAs) in the settled and merged districts to meet out salaries, pensions and previous liabilities. According to details, the funds are being provided for TMAs in 86 settled and 25 merged districts of the province. The cabinet also approved the upcoming administrative expenses for which formal concurrence will be given in the upcoming assembly session.

The 3rd meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Khan Gandapur in which detailed deliberations were carried on provision of grant for Cadet College Spinkai in South Waziristan Tribal District, supplementary grant for the TMAs, and approval of the signing of financial agreement between the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Unit.

While chairing the meeting, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur directed the relevant quarters to come up with concrete proposals to rid the provincial government from unnecessary liabilities, increase revenue through reforms, affective utilization of government property and pragmatic steps to revise the lease policy for enhanced revenue generation. He also directed the TMAs and Agriculture department to increase market places (mandi) in every district of the province.

The cabinet principally approved the provision of special financial grant for Cadet College Spinkai in South Waziristan Tribal District which will cater for the operational expenses of the College. The college is currently providing quality education to students in South Waziristan where fees have been kept at a bare minimum keeping in view the low economic activity in the area and to provide quality education to maximum number of students. The Chief Minister directed to undertake measures for provision of fund for scholarship to needy students and students with martyred parents of the Cadet Colleges of Spinkai and Wana.

The provincial cabinet also approved the signing of financial agreement between the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Sustainable Development Goals Unit.

CM decides to establish three directorates in Excise Dept

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has decided to establish three separate directorates in Excise Department with the purpose to enhance its working capacity in line with contemporary needs and requirements.

These directorates will include Directorate of Vehicle Registration & Management, Directorate of Intelligence and Narcotics Control and Directorate of Property Tax. The chief minister has directed the quarters concerned to clearly determinate the role and responsibilities of the proposed directorates. He added that ultimate goal is to put this important department on modern lines, and all possible steps would be taken in this regard. He was presiding over a meeting of Excise and Taxation department, held here at Chief Minister’s House.

The chief minister has directed the concerned authorities to propose necessary amendments in the relevant legal framework for enhancing revenue collection of the department. He also decided to withdraw the Excise department’s vehicles under the use of unauthorized persons, and directed the authorities concerned to formally serve the notice to all unauthorized persons in this regard, adding that legal action would be taken against those who do not return the vehicles within the stipulated time frame. All such vehicles would be handed over to police and other provincial departments on need basis. He further directed that the defective and useless vehicles, currently parked at warehouse of Excise department, should also be auctioned in a transparent manner, and made it clear that, these vehicles should not be handed over to anyone on political recommendation.

Moreover, he directed for complete documentation of all authorized persons who are provided with official vehicles. Similarly, he directed to have viable mechanism for collecting commercial tax on residential rented properties. The chief minister has directed the Excise department to introduce GIS system in order to ensure property tax collection in a more efficient and transparent manner. Ali Amin Gandapur made it clear that, he believes in practical steps instead of routine paperwork and presentations; we need to do work hard with concerted and result-oriented approach in order to expand our tax net, he stated. The Chief Minister also directed for necessary steps to strengthen the performance assessment mechanism within the department, adding that the officials with good performance should be encouraged, whereas, officials neglecting their professional obligations should be held accountable.
