KP govt to purchase 70 brand-new cars

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has allowed departments to buy new cars worth about a whopping Rs361 million, it was learnt on Saturday.

The government’s transport committee granted permission to nine departments to purchase 70 brand-new vehicles. However, the committee denied permission for acquiring new cars to four departments. All the departments have also been directed to hand over old and useless vehicles to the Administrative Department.

As per the access to information law, nine Toyota Rav vehicles worth Rs61.5 million will be bought for the Kohat Division Development Project of the Planning and Development Department. Four of these vehicles will be for the project management unit and two each for the district management unit Hangu and district management unit. Five vehicles are earmarked for the Local Government Department including a 1800cc car for its special secretary.

The permission was granted to buy 1300cc cars for Additional Secretary Development, Additional Secretary Establishment and Chief Planning Officer whereas a 1000cc car will be purchased for Senior Planning Officer. The Deputy Commissioner Lower Kohistan will get a 2800cc vehicle whereas Additional Deputy Commissioner Lower Kohistan Finance and Planning, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Lower Kohistan and Assistant Commissioner will get 2755cc vehicles.

The Deputy Commissioner Buner will get Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Buner, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioners of Dagar, Gadezai, Chagharzai will each get Toyota Rav4. According to the Finance Department, seven pick-up double-cabin Rav vehicles will be bought for the chairmen of district development coordination committees of seven tribal districts.
