PESHAWAR: Whenever this province came under critical situation, whether it is terrorism, unforeseen/ sudden disasters, accidents or any epidemic, lady reading hospital has always played a key role.
LRH is the only hospital that has saved the lives of more than 300 bomb blasts victims. That includes bomb blasts like in mina bazaar, which had more than 100 deaths at the same time and more than 200 injured were shifted to LRH.
The corona epidemic severely affected the whole world as well as Pakistan and especially khyber pakhtunkhwa which proved to be a major challenge for the health system.
Given the severity of the third wave of corona, it was feared that there would be shortage of beds in the hospitals.keeping in view the same situation, the provincial government together with the LRH administration decided that LRH should be allocated to corona patients only because the modern facilities and experienced medical staff here can play a very important role.
Therefore, it was decided to make the largest corona complex in the lrh and provide treatment only to the patients of the accident and other emergency.
More than 600 medical staff in LRH are busy treating corona patients day and night, while more than 1,000 medical staff themselves were also affected by corona, in which most of them are recovering and performing their duties again.
The number of corona’s serious patients in LRH reached 470, which can prove to be a big challenge for any hospital because so many patients need a continuous supply of oxygen.
For this purpose new building made up of more than 500 beds in LRH, which Was recently inaugurated by prime minister imran khan. In addition to modern machinery, there was a special arrangement for the continuous supply of oxygen.
In order to deal with the corona epidemic, the provincial government helped the LRH administration in every way, while the provincial health minister Taimur Jhagrra held a meeting with the LRH administration on skype daily and continued to review the situation in order to take timely action in case of any difficulty.
When the number of corona patients reached about 500, in view of the fear of problems in the supply of oxygen, hospital director Dr Muhammad abrar khan issued orders to install another tank of 10,000 liters and monitored it himself and installed CCTV cameras so that oxygen tanks could be monitored continuously.
By installing the new tank the capacity of oxygen has reached to 25K. The treatment of corona patients is not less than a big challenge. Along with the treatment of corona, people’s behavior created a lot of difficulties, which was a challenge because there was a wrong impression about the role of hospitals regarding corona and corona’s disease.
LRH is the only hospital where a counseling section was set up for corona patients and (teemardar) and with a video call, the (temardar) provided an opportunity to talk directly with their patients, which helped to overcome misconceptions about treatment.
In such harsh conditions, doctors, nurses, paramedics and support staff played a historical role in curonica’s treatment of seriously ill patients and played an important role in saving many precious lives.
Along with ensuring continuous supply of corona patients free medicines, all tests and other facilities were provided absolutely free, while senior doctors of each LRH unit played an exemplary role in the treatment of corona patients and set an example for junior doctors.
The largest complex of corona was built in LRH, which ensured the uninterrupted supply of 517 beds, 34 ventilators the total capacity of oxygen in LRH is 24 thousand liters. Due to which the arrival of such a large number of patients did not face any problem, nurses in the LRH served with doctors and played an important role in the care of patients. Many nurses suffered from corona themselves during duty at corona complex and fell seriously ill.
LRH’s emergency department was on high alert for 24 hours, where a large number of corona suspected cases were registered. Corona patient tests, other than admissions, treatment of emergency patients was not less than a challenge. Treatment was provided to thousands of other patients in a systematic way during the days of the epidemic, even some corona patients from Afghanistan were admitted to LRH who have recovered.
Hospital director brigadier (r) Dr. Muhammad Abrar Khan, medical director Dr. Abdul Basir and dean professor Abdul Latif khan continuously reviewed all facilities handed over to corona on a daily basis so that patients could be treated on time.
During the corona epidemic, the rumors created problems and sometimes the slightest thing was thrown on social media, which affected the medical staff and raised questions in people’s minds.
Hospital medical staff treated patients in such situations when people were afraid to go to their patients. Some of the LRH doctors had to enter the ICU who were infected with this virus. About 5000 patients were admitted during the corona epidemic in LRH, including patients from Chitral, Bajaur, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohat, Hangu, Charsadda, Mardan and other districts.
