Lufthansa Group’s airlines are set to resume flights to Israel in early January after being suspended in October due to the conflict in the country.

The European aviation giant said it would begin restoring services to Tel Aviv from 8 January in a phased plan, which will initially see its airlines operating 20 weekly flights to Israel, which represents around 30 per cent of its regular schedule.

Lufthansa was one of the many European airlines to suspend flights to Israel following the Hamas terrorist attacks on 7 October and the subsequent outbreak of war in Gaza.

The resumption of services to Israel will see Lufthansa Airlines fly from Frankfurt to Tel Aviv four times per week, as well as offering three weekly flights from Munich to Israel.

Sister carriers Austrian Airlines will also operate eight times per week between Vienna and Tel Aviv, and Swiss will fly five times weekly from Zurich to Tel Aviv.

“Safety is always a top priority for the airlines in the Lufthansa Group,” said the company in a statement. “The Lufthansa Group continues to monitor the security situation in Israel closely and is in close contact with the local and international authorities. Possible flight schedule adjustments must be expected due to changing conditions.”
