Muttaqi, UN envoy discuss upcoming Doha meeting on Afghanistan

KABUL (Ariana News): Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi met with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Afghanistan to discuss recent diplomatic progress of the Islamic Emirate, the upcoming Doha meeting on Afghanistan and the recent report of the UN Special Coordinator Feridun Sinirliogl, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

During the meeting, Muttaqi reiterated the position of the Islamic Emirate regarding UN Security Council Resolution 2721 and for constructive engagement between the Islamic Emirate and the United Nations, according to the statement.

He asked for more explanations from UNAMA on the agenda and composition of the upcoming Doha meeting, saying the Islamic Emirate will decide on participation based on the explanations.

On the other hand, Roza Otunbayeva, the special representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Afghanistan and the head of UNAMA, provided information about the upcoming Doha meeting and called for the IEA to attend.

In its resolution 2721, the United Nations Security Council called for the appointment of a new special representative for Afghanistan, a move that the Islamic Emirate has objected to.

The UN Doha meeting on Afghanistan is scheduled to be held in the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, the prime minister’s office has announced that the Political Commission of the Islamic Emirate had a detailed discussion on the upcoming Doha meeting on Saturday.
