ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights unanimously Thursday rejected the amendments proposed in the Protection against Harassment of Women at Work places Bill, 2017 commenting that the proposed changes are already part of the existing law.
The decision was taken by consulting the issue with the committee members and mover of the bill Chairperson of Federal Ombudsmen Secretariat for the Bill and representative of the Law and Justice Division MNA Dr Fouzia Hameed.
The committee met here under the chairmanship of MNA Babar Nawaz Khan.
Giving briefing on the Kasur incident, Additional Inspector General of Police Investigation of Punjab Abu Bakar Khuda Baksh briefed the committee that 1,500 people were so far investigated in Zainab case.
He informed that since July last year seven case of assault were reported in Kasur within the vicinity of only half kilo meter.
He said Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) of all those cases was the same, adding, “It is not a simple case but a serial killer is involved in it”.
He informed that 1,500 people of Kasur were investigated in Kasur so far to reach out the real culprits. “We have collected DNA of a large number of people of this district and trying to reach out real culprits,” he added.
He informed that they were doing the investigation on scientific methods.
He further briefed the committee that after the earlier incidents in July, a Joint Investigation Team was constituted which arrested a person Jahangir, but later it was disclosed that he was involved in abduction of a girl but not the real culprit.
“The man is now again under investigation”, he said adding, the recent development in the case was, they had arrested one accused Tanvir, who was brother of Jahangir as his DNA was found in a box of rice recovered besides the body of another victim Tehmina who was also killed in the same way.
“DNA of four people were found in the rice box and now they are investigating the role of Tanvir in that case,” he said.
He further informed that they had collected the data of any kind of abuse against children in Punjab to develop a mechanism for a long term. He hoped that culprits would be arrested soon.
Later, the committee meeting was deferred as the quorum was pointed out in National Assembly and decided to call it again on the same agenda.
The meeting was attended by Sahibzada Muhammad Yaqub, Begum Tahira Bukhari, Surriya Asghar, Dr Shazia Sobia, Kiran Haider, Amra Khan, Musarat Rafique Mahesar, Munaza Hassan, Phyllis Azeem, Asiya Naz Tanoli, Sajid Nawaz , Zahra Wadood Fatemi, Kishwer Zehra, Naseema Hafeez Panezai, MNA mover of the bill Dr Fouzia Hameed, and officials of the Ministry of Human Rights and provincial government of Punjab.
