Nasser suggets steps to combat challenge of cyber security

ISLAMABAD: National Security Adviser (NSA) Nasser Khan Janjua on Thursday said Information Security Agencies of the country need to scrutinize cyber space in order to protect communications, financial and conventional set-ups from cyber attack.

People and the government need to realize the gravity of cyber-security threats, he said while addressing a conference on ‘Cyber-Secure Pakistan: Vision-2025’ organized here by Pakistan Information Security Association. Stressing the need for taking concrete steps to combat challenges of cyber security, Nasser Khan Janjua called upon the experts to help and assist the government departments and people in this regard. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive of ‘Cyber Security Malaysia’ Dr. Aminuddin Abdul Wahab said Malaysia has taken timely measures to tackle the cyber security challenges including eight cyber laws and partnership with the local universities.

President of PISA Ammar Jaffery said the future of Pakistan is linked with timely development and ensuring cyber security in the country.

Representatives of information security agencies, National Police Foundation and a large number of students attended the conference. It may be mentioned here that with growing use of internet in every work of life and the current rapid transformation of ICTs enabled services specially in education, health and other walks of life, there is an urgent need to make the cyber space of Pakistan secure.

Globally cyber security is the part of overall strategy to promote the use of latest technologies in good governance initiatives. The most recent global initiative in this regard is Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which has now become the real roadmap of development in Pakistan.

In the light of this background there is an urgent need to adopt Cyber Security Policy and Strategy and to bring in place an Eco-System where all players of Cyber Security in Public and Private Sector could work together.

Pakistan Information Security Association (PISA) headed by Ammar Jaffri, former Additional Director General FIA is working for the promotion of Cyber Security in Pakistan since 2005 with support of CIT.

Besides Nasser Janjua, 10 international speakers spoke on Cyber Security.

Orther speakers of the conference were VCs, heads of telecom companies, and senior officers from government organizations.

The basic objectives of the conference were to bring in place an eco-system where all public and private sector organizations could work together for a cyber secure Pakistan and establish their computer emergency response teams.
