National COVID positivity surges at 5.38 percent; 2,366 patients critical

ISLAMABAD: The National COVID Positivity Ratio on Wednesday was recorded 5.38 percent where 2,366 Coronavirus patients were in critical condition across the country with the number of critical patients rising at a fast pace.

The positivity ratio was determined on the basis of positive cases appearing in 100 samples of COVID patients. The highest positivity ratio was observed in Karachi which was 14.56 percent followed by Peshawar 9.92 percent and Mirpur 8.33 percent, according to the latest update issued by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC).

The positivity ratio in various federating units was as in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) was 5.43 percent, Balochistan 7.39 percent, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) 2.14 percent, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) 6.25 percent, Punjab 3.63 percent and Sindh had 8.47 percent positivity ratio.

It also mentioned the Province wise COVID Positivity Ratio breakdown that indicated in Punjab, Lahore had maximum positivity ratio of 5.96 percent, Rawalpindi had 1.9 percent, Faisalabad 3.62 percent, Multan 2.73 percent, Bahawalpur 3.59 percent and Gujranwala 2.65 percent. In Sindh, Karachi had 14.56 percent, Hyderabad 7.76 percent, in KP, Peshawar had 9.92 percent, Swat 3.52 and Abbotabad 1.82 percent, in Baluchistan, Quetta had 8.04 percent, in ICT 2.14 percent positivity ratio was prevailing. In AJK, Mirpur had 8.33 percent and Muzaffarabad had 1.35 positivity ratio. 

The update also showed Mortality Analysis during the prevailing pandemic outbreak as a total of 10,772 deaths were recorded with prevailing Case Fatality Rate of 2.12 percent against the global death rate of 2.14 percent. It added that as per the gender analysis of the deceased around 69 percent were males with 77.6 percent over the age of 50-year.

Around 74 percent of the perished COVID-19 patients had chronic comorbidities (affected with another disease prior to contracting Coronavirus).

Out of the total died COVID patients 91 percent of the deceased remained hospitalised and out if these patients 57 percent were on ventilators, it added.

Meanwhile,  The pandemic COVID-19 claimed another 24 precious lives in last 24 hours,whereas 509 new cases of coronavirus were reported on Wednesday across the province. According to the data shared by the spokesperson of Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD) ,the number of coronavirus cases in the province reached 146,525,while the total deaths were recorded as 4,323 altogether.

The P&SHD confirmed that 311 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Lahore,2 in Sheikhupura,2 in Nankana Sahib,20 in Rawalpindi,8 in Jehlum.
