National Voter’s Day celebrated by ECP

PESHAWAR: The purpose of celebrating National Voter’s Day is to highlight the importance of vote, Provincial Election Commissioner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shamshad Khan said while addressing a provincial level ceremony regarding National Voter’s Day on Thursday.

Election Commission’s officers and staff participated in large numbers and the national anthem was presented.

He said that the Election Commission of Pakistan is a constitutional and independent body whose main responsibility is to conduct transparent, free and impartial elections in the country.

He further said that the Election Commission has released the final list of constituencies. While preparations are being made for the general elections, Shamshad Khan further said that on the occasion of National Voter’s Day, seminars and ceremonies have been organized under the supervision of Regional Election Commissioners and District Election Commissioners has been started, the aim of which is to make the youth recognize the importance of voting and their power, so that the turnout in the upcoming general elections will increase significantly.

He said that the turnout in the last general elections was about 44 percent, in which there is scope for growth.

The Provincial Election Commissioner further said that the facilities in all the polling stations have been reviewed in the general elections.

He said that a total of 20,821,301 voters are registered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which the number of male voters is 11,436,241 and the number of female voters. 9,385,060. He said, trying to reduce the gender gap.

He said that it is a legal offense to prevent women from voting.

The Provincial Election Commissioner said that the role of the administration and the police in conducting the elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been commendable, it is expected that this cooperation will continue in the next general elections as well.
