On Russian Efforts in the Sphere of the Middle East Settlement

F.P. Report

MOSCOW: Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia for the Middle East Settlement (BVU) V.K. The day before, the Russian special envoy met with the Egyptian Ambassador to Moscow N. Nagari.

During the contacts, the partners were informed about the steps we are taking on the track of the Palestinian-Israeli settlement, including Moscow’s efforts to resume the activities of the Middle East Quartet of international mediators consisting of Russia, the United States, the UN and the EU at the ministerial level.

The necessity of consolidating the approaches of all regional players to the issue of the BWI was emphasized in order to create the necessary conditions for restarting direct negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis on a set of final status issues.

In this context, the unacceptability of unilateral steps, including settlements and provocative actions in the Holy Places of Jerusalem, which are fraught with undermining the established status quo and the prospects for the implementation of the “two states” formula – Palestine and Israel, coexisting in peace and security, was confirmed.
