Pakistan receive boost as Hasan Ali likely to make comeback for Bangladesh clash

ISLAMABAD (Monitoring Desk): Pakistani pacer Hasan Ali is recovering well from a fever and will be available for training ahead of his side’s match against Bangladesh in 2023 Cricket World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board said on Sunday, raising some hope for the green shirts’ campaign in the tournament.

Pakistan were forced to leave out Ali in the match against South Africa and brought Mohammad Wasim in his stead. Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the semi-finals decreased further after their loss to South Africa by a wicket in Chennai.

Azam’s side came into the match against the Proteas with three successive defeats against India, Australia and Afghanistan. However, Ali’s possible inclusion in the squad has given some hope to Pakistani fans for the side’s to continue in the World Cup.

“Hasan Ali is recovering well under the guidance of the team’s medical panel. He will be available for training tomorrow,” the PCB said in a statement on Sunday. Pakistan squad arrived in Kolkata from Chennai to play the match against Bangladesh on October 31 at the Eden Gardens stadium.

“The Pakistan team will take part in the practice sessions on October 30, ahead of the match [against Bangladesh],” the PCB said on Saturday. Pakistan, who were ranked as the world’s top ODI team last month, won their first two games of the tournament.

However, they then slumped to defeats against arch-rivals India, Australia and Afghanistan before going down to the Proteas on Friday. They will have to win their remaining three matches and hope other results go their way if they are to sneak into the semi-finals.
