Pakistan should not blame its shortcomings on Afghanistan: Mujahid

KABUL (Khaama Press): In response to remarks made by Pakistan’s Defense Minister on the Taliban administration for disregarding crucial commitments made in Doha Agreements 2020, Zabihullah Mujahid said on Saturday night that the deal had been signed with the US, not with Pakistan.

In a conversation with BBC Pashto, Mujahid said, “The Doha peace agreement has been signed with America, and Afghanistan’s soil will not be used against Pakistan, and Pakistan is a brotherly and Muslim country.”

This came following Khawaja Asif’s statement that he was gravely concerned about the safe havens and freedom of action Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan terrorists (TTP) have in the country.

Mujahid added that the de facto authorities had conducted discussions with Pakistan regarding the TTP and would take action against the TTP if the Pakistani government shares evidence of their concerns with them.

Mujahid also said that any attack by Pakistan’s army against Afghanistan territory would be dealt with. The Taliban government “will seriously prevent it, and we will not allow anyone to encroach on our territory.”

The Minister of Defense of Pakistan had also warned the Taliban authorities that if they do not act against terrorist groups, including TTP, “Pakistan will use all possible resources and measures to protect its soil and citizens.”

According to the Doha Agreement agreements, Islamabad expects the de facto government to prevent the use of its territory to plan terrorist operations against any nation, according to Pakistan’s defence minister.

On Friday, the Pakistani army also expressed its concern with the presence of TTP members in Afghanistan.

“The involvement of Afghan nationals in acts of terrorism in Pakistan is another important concern that needs to be addressed,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

“Such attacks are intolerable and would elicit an effective response from the security forces of Pakistan.”

However, earlier, the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan had mediated between the Pakistan government and the TTP, but the talks had failed.
