Panjshir mountain landslide kills child

PANJSHIR (Khaama Press): A mountain landslide in the northern Afghan province of Panjshir claimed the life of a child and resulted in the mother of the child suffering injuries, said local Taliban authorities.
According to Taliban officials, the fatal landslide took place in the Qala Talkha region of Panjshir’s Dara district, and resulted in the death of a child and the injury of a woman.
The woman who was injured as a result of the mountain landslide works for one of the health centers in Panjshir province, according to Asadullah Nejat, the Head of the Taliban Public Health in the province.
At the same time, four people were killed in a landslide in Badakhshan province, in northeastern Afghanistan, as a result of several days of continuous rain in the province.
The highways leading to the province’s center have been obstructed in certain districts of Badakhshan due to snowfall and torrential rain, barring the rescue teams to reach the site.
The Badakhshan province and many other provinces in northern Afghanistan had received warnings from the Afghanistan Meteorological Department (AMD) regarding forecasted torrential downpours and flash floods.
This comes at a time when Afghanistan has been plagued by political unrest, a humanitarian crisis, poverty, and unemployment all at once, as well as by the severe natural catastrophes this year, which claimed the lives of numerous lives.
