Peshawar Museum launches App to tell Budha stories online

Peshawar: Peshawar Museum launched a mobile application for local and International visitors to digitally explore Buddha Gallery of Peshawar Museum in English, Urdu and Pashto languages.

The application developed by Kasab Gar a social enterprise, supported by US Embassy in collaboration with Directorate of Archaeology and Museums Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Ceremony was joined by Atif Khan-Minister Archaeology, Tourism, Culture and Youth Affairs-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, representative of the US Embassy, Director Archaeology and Museums KP-Dr Abdul Samad, and other Culture and Heritage experts.

The mobile App which has been designed in an interactive way enables visitors to listen and read description of artifacts of the Buddha gallery present inside the museum.

The App with the name of ‘Peshawar Museum’ can be downloaded in any mobile using Google Play store and apple store.

The App availability in three languages – English, Urdu and Pashto – both in Text and Audio makes it the only app in Pakistan which let users have a virtual tour of the Peshawar Museum anywhere on their phones and during the visit to the museum in Peshawar.

A facilitation Kiosk was established at Peshawar Museum with Tablets having the application installed on it to facilitate the digital tour of Buddha Gallery.

The kiosk and application was inaugurated by Mr. Atif Khan- Minister of Archaeology, Culture, Tourism and Youth Affiars Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Shafeeq Gigyani, Lead Re-think Peshawar project shared that Museum holds a rich history of our region which cannot be explored without the help of guide from the Museum, now this application will help visitors to explore Museum on their own.

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through the Mobile App intended to create a fusion of heritage and technology, where the heritage is preserved and communicated to the young generation in a better engaging way.

 “We are thankful to the Directorate of Archeology and Museum Peshawar, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for understanding the importance of the idea and US Embassy Islamabad for the finance assistance in the project”, said by Mr. Gigyani.

He further added that this app will enhance critical thinking, promote religious harmony and pluralist history.
