PHC issues notice to Aimal over contempt petition

PESHAWAR: Chief Justice Peshawar High Court (PHC) Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan ordered Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Aimal Wali Khan for appearance tomorrow (Thursday) in Contempt of Court (CoC) for using abusive rhetoric against judiciary during an interview, on Tuesday.

The contempt of court plea filed by Fazal Muhammad Khan against ANP provincial president interview while arguing that the rhetoric portraying to subdue independence of judiciary and requested for CoC proceedings.

Barrister Sarwar Muzaffar Shah argued that Aimal Wali Khan claimed in an interview that he (ANP provincial president) knows Chief Justice PHC (Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan) is co-villager of former Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser. He added that ANP president also claimed that CJ PHC also served Malgary Wakeelan as member.

In the meantime, Chief Justice PHC Justice Ibrahim Khan observed that what is Malgary Wakeelan? The counsel informed that it is ANP lawyers forum, however Chief Justice remarked that then they are threatening their workers if I had served his party? Mr. Advocate General What is this, CJ inquired.

Advocate General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amir Javed argued that You are serving as Judge from 31 years. Chief Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan observe may he (ANP president Aimal Wali Khan) wasn’t born at that time.

Barrister Muzaffar Shah argued that Aimal Wali also claimed that CJ PHC will start legal practice after retirement, however, Justice Ibrahim Khan observe it is making a fun against lawyers and added that he isn’t joining politics after retirement.

PHC’s Chief Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan ordered ANP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Aimal Wali Khan for appearance before court and adjourned further hearing till 11th January. It is worthy to mention that the petitioner had also filed supplementary plea for hearing for initiation of CoC proceedings against ANP president Aimal Wali Khan.
