PHC seeks explanation from IGP

PESHAWAR: A divisional bench of Peshawar High Court (PHC) comprised of Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Waqar Ahmad seeks explanation from Inspector General Police (IGP), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Akhtar Hayat Khan Gangapur till 19th March regarding arrest of citizens by Punjab’s police in the premises of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Wednesday.

PHC ordered in detail order sheet on the plea of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) nominated Chief Minister for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Aminpur asking IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to provide legal grounds for arrest of citizens held by Punjab’s police in the premises of Pakhtunkhwa province.

The plea argued that Elite Squad of Punjab’s police attempted to arrest PTI nominated candidate for Chief Minister slot Ali Amin Gandapur on 19th February despite PHC’s granted transit bail to him which is illegal. PHC observed that the High Court had stopped arrest of PTI nominated candidate for Chief Minister slot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa till next hearing but Punjab’s police had violated the court’s order.

PHC’s divisional bench comprising of Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Waqar Ahmad order IGP for submission legal grounds for arrest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s residents by Punjab’s police in their province while issued notices to respondents for 19th March.

Meanwhile, PHC’s divisional bench comprising Justice SM Attique Shah and Justice Syed Arshad Ali granted transit bail to PTI activist and In-charge Zaman Park Chaudary Bilal Ijaz while ordered to appear before concerned High Court within fortnight.

The counsel Khurram Zeeshan and Shah Faisal Ottomankhel advocates argued that petitioner is elected Member National Assembly from constituency NA-81 and as law abiding citizen will appear before concerned courts of law.
