PPC Fighters stun PPC Markhor to lift trophy

PESHAWAR: PPC Fighters outclass PPC Markhors by 44runs in a one-sided final to lift the trophy of RMI Media Cricket League. Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ghulam Ali was the chief guest on the occasion.

After winning the all important toss, Fightes captain Bilal Afridi elected to bat first and his team responded well by scoring 136 for the loss of two wickets in the allotted 12 overs.

Shah Faisal once again showed his batting class by scoring 48 runs off just 25 balls with three sixes and three fours. Kamran 30 and Waqar 24 helped Fighters to post a target of 136 runs. In reply, Markhor, who had won the trophy for a record four times, never looked in control as Fighters bowlers gave no chance to Markhor batsmen to free their arms.

Shahid Afridi who ended the tournament with joint top wicket taker along with Markhor’s Irshad, was once again outstanding taking four wickets including two in one over. Markhor could manage to score only 96 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

President Peshawar Press Club Arshad Aziz Malik, Pakistan Sports Writers Federation President Amjad Aziz Malik, Former President of PPC M Riaz, Khyber Union of Journalists President Nasir Hussain, Peshawar Press Club Sports Committee Chairman Zafar Iqbal, Sports Writers Association President Asim Shiraz, RMI Director Operations Dr. Gulzar, HOD Marketing Faizan Qureshi, Manager Media RMI Syed Shabir Shah and other senior journalists were present.

In the end, the chief guest Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ail distributed prizes among the winning players. Shah Faisal was named as best batsman of the tournament while Irshad Ali was declared as best bowler of the tournament, while Shahid Afridi was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling.
