Progress in Afghan security improving: Sinirlioglu

KABUL (Agencies): Feridun Sinirlioglu, the special coordinator of the United Nations for Afghanistan affairs and his accompanying delegation, in a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs Maulvi Abdul Salam Hanafi said that, good progress has been made in Afghanistan, especially in the field of security and stability has been established.
In this meeting Feridun Sinirlioglu gave information about his evaluation of Afghanistan and said that we are trying to resolve the misunderstanding between the international community and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
He added that Afghanistan has a long history and we want to have good relations with the Islamic Emirate and we wish Afghanistan to live in peace with its neighbors and the world and be an active member of the international community.
He said that work should be done on technical and development assistance for Afghanistan, because the people of Afghanistan need such assistance.
At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs Maulvi Abdul Salam Hanafi, while welcoming them, said: “The Islamic Emirate seeks positive interaction with the world in an atmosphere of mutual respect and interaction, and such meetings between the officials of the Islamic Emirate and the United Nations are aimed at resolving misunderstandings. It is good and issues should be resolved through dialogue and discussion.”
Referring to the positive developments after the rule of the Islamic Emirate, Mr. Hanafi said that complete security has been ensured in Afghanistan, the cultivation, production and trafficking of narcotics has been banned, administrative corruption has been prevented, amnesty has been declared and remains in force. A thousand addicts have been collected and treated, the press operates within the framework of Islamic principles and national interests, and the rights of all citizens of the country are regulated according to Islamic principles.
“We want to settle Afghanistan and heal the wounds of the past four decades, and the Islamic Emirate will not allow anyone to use Afghanistan’s soil against the security of others,” Hanafi added.
Mr. Hanafi also said: “We hope that the misunderstandings between the Islamic Emirate and the international community will be resolved with your mission.”
TOLOnews adds: The UN’s Special Coordinator on Afghanistan, Feridun H. Sinirlioglu, on his visit to Afghanistan, met with several officials of the Islamic Emirate and influential political leaders.
In April this year, The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed Sinirlioglu, who is from Türkiye, to lead an independent assessment to provide recommendations for addressing challenges faced by Afghanistan.
As “Special Coordinator,” Sinirlioglu will lead the assessment with a view to providing “recommendations for an integrated and coherent approach,” the statement of Guterres’ spokesman said.
Former president Hamid Karzai, In his meeting with Sinirlioglu, reiterated that “national understanding” is the only way to establish lasting peace and stability in the country.
The former president wrote on X that he praised Sinirlioglu’s efforts to improve the economic situation and ensure stability in the country and called for girls’ education and women’s return to work as vital to Afghanistan’s development.
Abdullah Abdullah, former chairperson of the High Council for National Reconciliation, also wrote on X about his meeting with Sinirlioglu and expressed his appreciation for the UN’s role and humanitarian support for the people of Afghanistan.
Abdullah thanked him for his diligent efforts in assessing the UN’s role in Afghanistan and wished him success.
He also held a meeting with the acting Interior Minister, Sirajuddin Haqqani, where Haqqani stressed that it is the responsibility of the United Nations to ensure international peace and resolve issues through dialogue and neutrality in Afghanistan as well as that necessary steps should be taken with the Afghans in this regard.
Haqqani also further said that the UN is ready to cooperate with Afghanistan in the fields of strengthening international relations, reconstruction, and combating narcotics in a complete way.
“In this meeting, issues relevant to the current challenges and improving relations of the Islamic Emirate with the international community were discussed,” said Abdul Matin Qani, a spokesman for the MoI.
The political analysts suggested that the Islamic Emirate should observe international conventions in a bid to resolve the existing challenges in the country “Mr Sinirlioglu is a good diplomat. But his faded (weak) actions will cause the challenges and problems of Afghanistan to be forgotten by the world,” said Toreq Farhadi, a political analyst.
“The recognition of the country needs the satisfaction of people at national levels and preserving international convention, so the Islamic Emirate should pay attention to this,” said Mohammad Omar Nuhzat, head of the Hezb-e-Ama.
The Islamic Emirate regained power in Afghanistan in August 2021, but it has yet to be recognized by any world country.
The restrictive policies of the interim government of women and human rights including a ban on female education and the lack of an inclusive government are said to be the main obstacles for recognition of the Islamic Emirate.
