Punjab health minister wants early completion of project

RAWALPINDI: Punjab Minister for Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education department Khawaja Salman Rafique said on Saturday that that government has focused on expansion of medical treatment facilities.

He expressed these views while presiding over first syndicate meeting of Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) held here Saturday. The meeting was attended by Secretary Health Punjab Vice Chancellor RMU Prof. Muhammad Umar, medical superintendents Holy Family, district and Benazir Bhutto hospitals and syndicate members.

Prof Muhammad Umar presented roadmap and plan of action to be executed to transform world into actions to fill the gap between demand and provision of medical teaching and research facilities to make Rawalpindi Medical University a unique medical education and research Institution of the country.

Khawaja Salman Rafique appreciated the performance and future planning of RMU and said that government has focused on expansion of medical treatment facilities and besides improving the existing health facilities new models of excellence in health sector.  He said that huge resources were being spent on construction of state of the art medical Institutions in different areas of province.

Special Secretary Health Punjab, Sajad Ahmed Chohan sharing his views in the syndicate meeting elaborated the rules of business to run the matters of Rawalpindi Medical University accordingly and said that effective management and observing financial disciplines would help in smooth functioning of veracity.

Vice Chancellor RMU, Professor Muhammad Umar briefed about the ongoing activities and proposed training programmes, quality assurance, curriculum up-gradation, RMU residency programme, MoU’s with reputed foreign institutions, resource management, financial management and various other initiatives adapted to make Rawalpindi Medical University a center of excellence.

He also informed that a future plan of digitization has been evolved to undertake the affairs of University on modern lines and in accordance with the international standard practices.

Professor Muhammad Umar informed that all related organizations including HEC, provincial government departments and research institutes had been contacted for mutual cooperation, funding and supporting quality educational programmes. The syndicate accorded approval of various steps besides constitution of different committees to run the affairs of Rawalpindi Medical University in accordance with prescribed rules and regulations.

Earlier, Punjab Minister for Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department Khawaja Salman Rafique visited under construction project of Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and directed that the remaining work would be completed according to the fixed time lines.
