Residents of Dir quarantined villages seek early relief packages

F.P. Report

TIMERGARA: Residents of the two Dir quarantined villages at Talash on Wednesday complained about delay in provision of relief packages to poor deserving people. Talking to this scribe, social activist Abdul Wakil, PPP activist Muhammad Wahab Swati and Haji Sher Hassan said that Ziarat Bukhari and Madinabad villages in Talash were quarantined and sealed by the administration on March, 28 after the death of a woman who was tested positive for Covid-19.

The residents said that over 2000 people including daily wagers, vendors and shopkeepers were facing hardships due to lock down. The residents said that despite the passage of 11 days the quarantined people had not been provided ration, hygiene kits or health facilities. They however admitted that welfare organizations and local youth wings of various political parties had provided ration, sanitizers, soaps and face masks to some of the families. They demanded of the government and district administration to provide relief to marginalized communities having no source of income during the ongoing lock down. The locals also rejected survey conducted by the PTI activists for distribution of relief items and demanded of the administration to review the lists prepared by the Tiger force.

The assistant commissioner Timergara Shah Jamil Khan told on contact that according to the protocol the administration was bound to provide one time ration to the family where there was a positive case. He said the government had not yet announced any package for the quarantined people.

The deputy district health officer and focal person on Corona virus Dr Irshad Ali Rughani said the health department had arranged a free medical camp in the quarantined villages. He said the health condition of the positive Covid-19 patients (the primary and secondary contacts of the deceased woman) was stable and they did not need medical care. The DDHO said that in most cases patients preferred to stay at home quarantine as compared to the specified centres or isolation wards.
