SCCI, ANF agreed to take joint initiatives for rehab of drug-addicts

PESHAWAR: Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Fuad Ishaq and Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), Regional Directorate Commander Brig Mazhar Hussain have agreed to take joint steps for elimination of drugs and rehabilitation of drug addicts and make them a good citizen of the society.

Fuad Ishaq vowed SCCI along with ANF will make contacts with philanthropists for engaging drug addicts in healthy activities and getting rid them from drug addiction and uprooting the menace of drugs from the society. The SCCI chief said proactive steps would be taken for establishment of a drug-free society and establishment of rehabilitation centres.

According to the details, an important meeting was held between SCCI president Fuad Ishaq and ANF Regional Directorate Commander Brig Mazhar Hussain, said in a press release here on Wednesday. The ANF Joint Director Col Ishanullah and Inspector Chemical Incharge Qaiser Rasool were present in the meeting.

The meeting discussed cases of drug-smuggling cases, recovery of drugs in passengers’ limbs and luggage who were traveling abroad along with illegal sale of the banned chemicals, use in chemicals factories and other matters. Fuad Ishaq was apprised during the meeting that chemical use in different chemical factories were used in drug related materials, for its eradication, the SCCI and ANF will work jointly.

In the meeting, it was informed that ANF will prepare a list of various factories under which data of chemicals, which are using drugs will be gathered and the SCCI will provide assistance in this regard. The list, which would be provided by ANF, will be disseminated between SCCI’ members, particularly in industrialists and awareness will be raised among them in this regard, the meeting said.

Fuad Ishaq presented a proposal for rehabilitation of drug-addicts under a policy of ‘adopt a brother’ and ‘adopt a sister’. By signing memorandum of understandings (MoUs), he said SCCI in collaboration with non-governmental organisations and social welfare institutions will take initiatives for making the drug-addicts a good citizen of the society.
