Snowfall disconnects road links to many areas

ABBOTTABAD: A new spell of snowfall and rain started in Hazara division brought the mercury level below zero in most parts of the region. Naran, Battagram, Torghar, Thandyani, Galiyat and other parts in upper Hazara division received heavy snowfall during last 24 hour. The Met Office forecast snowfall for next two days while heavy downpour for plain areas.

Due to heavy snowfall that Kaghan road, Thandyani road, Main Muree road from Nathia Gali to Donga Gali were blocked for all sorts of traffic. The snowfall had damaged the electricity transmission system in district Battagram where up to 2 feet snow was recorded during last 24 hours while due to freezing temperature Pneumonia also struck the area and 20 children caught by the disease were admitted in the hospital. On the other side 5 union councils of Tehsil Alia district Battagram linked roads were blocked due to heavy snowfall forcing the people to remain at homes.

Meanwhile the prices of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) and fire wood doubled in the areas while people complained about shortage of both the commodities. Media Manager Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) Ahsan Hameed when contacted told this agency that despite heavy snowfall the official of authority were working to clear the roads for traffic. He advised the tourists to visit Galiyat with full preparations and use chains on tires to avoid any untoward situation.
