Sports’ competitions among schools begin in Lower Dir

TIMERGARA: The annual district sports’ competitions among government and private high and higher secondary schools of Lower Dir started at different grounds.

The district education officer Dr Hafiz Muhammad Ibrahim, general secretary district sports’ committee Principal Humayun Khan, ADO Ali Haidar and other officials formally inaugurated the events. More than 100 high and higher secondary schools for boys are taking part in these sports’ competitions.

Talking to this reporter the DEO hafiz Ibrahim said the district had been divided in zones. He said that cricket, hockey, football, basketball, volleyball, badminton single and double, tug of war, Kabbudy, athletics and declamation competitions had been included in the tournament.

He said the tournament would continue till Nov, 8. The DEO said that cricket matches would e played on the grounds of Mayar, Khazana, Saddo, Talash, Chakdara and Lal Qila. He said that grounds had been specified for various sports.

The DEO said that games were vital for the overall development of school children. He directed the sports’ management committee and in charges teachers of games to create a friendly environment for players so that they could exhibit their hidden potentials. The DEO accompanied by other education officers visited different grounds on Monday and expressed satisfaction and pleasure on the arrangements for sports’ competitions.

Forest fire: The Adenzai Lower Dir administration succeeded to extinguish a forest fire that suddenly broke out in the Bambolai hill. The additional assistant commissioner Adenzai Aleem Khan Umarzai told local journalists at Chakdara that after getting information about the forest fire the administration promptly sent not only the fire brigade vehicle but also directed the police and Levies officials to reach the site.

He said that government officials supported by locals controlled the fire flames within no time and the densely populated forest was protected. He also thanked the local population for helping out the administration in putting out the fire. Also in the day the AAC Aleem Khan Umarzai paid a surprise visit to different markets of Chakdara and checked weights of bread, official price list and quality of food items. Several shopkeepers were fined on the spot and Rs 15000 were received from them.

Similarly several shopkeepers were booked for overcharging commuters in violation of official price list. The AAC also visited the basic health unit Chakdara and found the staff working properly.
