Stakeholders to play role for high voter turnout: Shamshad Khan

PESHAWAR: All stakeholders should play their role in increasing turnout in the upcoming elections and cooperate with the Election Commission in this special campaign, these views were expressed by the Provincial Election Commissioner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shamshad Khan at the first meeting of the Provincial Voters Education Committee on Tuesday.

While addressing, the Joint Provincial Election Commissioner (Elections) Javed Rahmat Khan welcomed the participants. Additional Secretary, Higher Education Department, Umra Khan, Deputy Secretary, Arshad Jan from Awqaf, Abdul Basit from Elementary and Secondary Education, Daulat Khan from Tourism, Amil Rashid from Women Commission, Section Officer Ali Khan from Health Department and Information Officer Khushal from PID were present in the meeting. Shahid Khan from NADRA, Farid Gul from URDO, Shahid Waseem from SPO, Zubair Anbiya from AAC, Dr. Abrar from Peshawar University Department of Social Work, Deputy Registrar Mian Asim Iqbal from IM Sciences, Zwar from Special Life Foundation. Noor, Ayesha Khursheed from Hawa Lor, Farwa Kazmi from Aurat Foundation, Anumbrin from IFES participated in the meeting. Various issues related to the election process were discussed and an awareness campaign is conducted among the public.

It is determined to continue efforts to increase the inclusion of all marginalized sections, including women, he said, adding that joint voter registration campaigns with NADRA and civil society are being implemented to close the gender gap in voter lists.

He said that apart from vote registration, voting is very important. So that a sustainable democratic system can be formed in the country in true and real sense.
He added that the Election Commission is trying to ensure the participation of all sections of the society in the electoral process. We should all work together to increase the turnout especially of women.

Before that, the spokesman of the Provincial Election Commissioner Khyber Pakhtunkhwa gave a detailed briefing regarding the formation of the Provincial Voters Education Committee and its objectives, and the importance and objectives of the vote.

On this occasion, the participants also expressed their views and offered suggestions. The Provincial Election Commissioner welcomed the suggestions from the participants and assured his cooperation.
