Strengthening agricultural ties: Deputy Prime Minister meets Iran’s agriculture minister

KABUL (BNA): Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, has met with Iran’s Minister of Agriculture, Mohammad Ali Nikbakht, during his official visit to Iran.
The meeting underscored the historical political, economic, and trade relations between Afghanistan and Iran, with a particular emphasis on the potential for enhancing these ties.
During the discussion, Mullah Baradar Akhund stressed the need for joint efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.
The two sides explored various facets of agricultural cooperation, including the mechanization of agriculture in Afghanistan, support for alternative crops to replace poppy cultivation, investments in fundamental agricultural products and fruit trees, capacity-building in Afghan agriculture, irrigation, and livestock.
The idea of organizing joint exhibitions to market agricultural products was also discussed.
The officials considered increasing agricultural investments in Afghanistan by Iranian investors, enhancing cooperation in importing and exporting agricultural goods, reducing tariffs on Afghan agricultural products, and facilitating the transportation of Afghan agricultural products through Iran to various destinations.
Minister Mohammad Ali Nikbakht and his accompanying Iranian officials assured Mullah Baradar Akhund’s delegation of comprehensive collaboration in the mentioned areas.
They affirmed that the relevant agencies of both countries would work closely together to advance economic and trade cooperation. This meeting signifies a promising step towards strengthening the agricultural ties between Afghanistan and Iran.
