‘Teenager’s involvement in drug addiction alarming’

MARDAN: District Nazim Mardan has warned authorities concerned of alarming situation regarding involvement of teenagers in drug addiction across Mardan district, it has been learnt.

In this regard , the district nazim Mr. Himayat Ullah Mayar advocate has written letters to deputy commissioner, district education officer (male) and district police officer of Mardan district, copy of which was also available to The Frontier Post.

In the letter, district nazim Mardan Himayat Ullah Mayar had drawn attention of relevant officials towards the menace of drug addiction in specially government educational institutions and schools. ”It has been reported and observed that some of the teenagers and youth are involved in narcotics and smoking specially in the ‘Ice Drugs’ which can cause serious problems beyond addiction,” he warned, adding that those problems were included overdoses, car-accidents and sexual assault and harassment.

Through the letter, the district nazim urged district education officer (male) Mardan to take concrete steps with regards to counseling, capacity buildings, focusing on social, moral and behavioral education of students. He also stressed that religious awareness and harmful effects of all social evils including narcotics must be developed among students as well as teenagers outside schools.

He asked all the relevant stake-holders to take effective measures and exercise a vigil eye in all government and private educational institutions and schools with check over indoor and outdoor elements who were involved or instigate the innocents towards that harmful trend.

Similarly, he emphasized relevant quarters to take appropriates actions against this addiction especially in government schools so that to save and protect precious future assets from destruction. ”The district government Mardan in collaboration with all stake- holders will utilize its every nerve to provide friendly atmosphere in all the educational institutions of the district,” the district nazim claimed.

He made it clear that the situation was much alarming as concerning the involvement of teenagers specially students in drug addiction which needed to be curbed at the nib without delay and compromise of either kind.
