Will neither meet governor nor recommend new name for Sindh IG: Saeed Ghani

F.P. Report

KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Saeed Ghani has on Wednesday said that the provincial government will neither meet Governor Sindh Imran Ismail nor recommend any new name for the appointment of Sindh IG.

Saeed Ghani talked to media and stressed that the federal government has to select any name for the aforementioned post from the list of five individuals that has already been forwarded by the provincial government.

“Consultation with the governor Sindh is illegal”, Saeed Ghani said.

He maintained that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has apprised Prime Minsiter Imran Khan of the reasons to remove Dr. Kaleem Imam. The PPP leader further claimed that the Sindh CM and the PM had agreed on one name but the decision was changed after the federal cabinet’s meeting.

Saeed Ghani said The IGs of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are changed in thirty minutes whereas it takes thirty days for the same procedure in Sindh.

While commenting on the Sindh High Court’s decision of nullifying the transfer notifications of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Khadim Hussain Rind and Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Rizwan, he said we don’t agree with the verdict but are bound to accept it. The Sindh government has provided five names for inspector general police post and won’t send the sixth one, Saeed Ghani maintained. The minister said despite agreement over a name for IGP Sindh slot, the matter was raised in the federal cabinet meeting, while such rule was  neglected while changing IGPs in Punjab and Balochistan. The federal cabinet members on Tuesday (yesterday)  had postponed the appointment of new IGP Sindh and had decided to hold consultation with the governor and chief minister. Prime Minister Imran Khan had chaired a meeting of the federal cabinet to discuss 15-point agenda including the appointment of new IGP Sindh after the removal of the current police chief Dr Kaleem Imam.
