Yasin wins Mr Pakistan title at 34th National Games in Quetta

QUETTA): Representing the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda), renowned bodybuilder Yasin Khan has won Mr Pakistan Olympic 2023 title during the ongoing 34th National Games in Quetta.

Competing with the top bodybuilders from across the country, the Peshawar-born athlete secured the first position. Yasin, at the final round of the event, had a competition with Karachi’s Fida Baloch. Yasin was voted as the best poser which earned him the coveted title.

“It’s a very proud moment for me,” the champion bodybuilder said while speaking to media. He said overall the competition was quite tough and he had to work really hard to reach this stage. He also thanked to his parents, trainers and friends for their all-out support extended to him.

The people, as the won the title, lifted him on their shoulders and took a round of bodybuilding arena. He said he didn’t expect this much love from the people of Quetta. He was grateful to the people for their support and appreciation.

Yasin, has won several accolades previously, aims to represent the country at the international level. He said he wanted to do much more than this for his country. He sought support of the government for bodybuilders. He said bodybuilders needed financial support to represent Pakistan in the world.

Showing outstanding performance, Punjab sports teams have so far won 26 medals, including six silver and 20 bronze medals in 34th National Games in Quetta, according to a release issued on Thursday.

According to the information made available here by the Sports Board Punjab, overall Punjab athletes added eight medals including two silver and six bronze to their National Games medals tally.

Punjab judo team won four medals including two silver and two bronze. Mohammad Ehtsham and Bano Butt won silver medals in -60kg and -44kg weight categories. While Atrooba and Adnan Maqbool won bronze medals in -48kg and -50kg weight categories, respectively.

In karate, Punjab’s Khadija won bronze medal. In table tennis, Punjab team beat Pak Navy by 3-0 in round match on Thursday. In first match, Mohsin Raza beat Asim 11-8, 11-8, 5-11, 11-3, In second match, Awais Hassan beat Ramzan 11-6, 11-7, 11-7.
In third match, Zain Pervaiz beat Talha 11-6, 11-7, 11-7. In taekwondo, Punjab players Samra Zafar and Aqsa Asif clinched bronze medals in -49kg and -73kg weight categories, respectively. In wushu, Punjab’s Ajmal, Mehreen, Abdullah, Shaheen and Junaid reached the semifinals in National Games. In basketball, Punjab team defeated Navy with the margin of 66-63.

Pakistan Wapda emerged victorious in both men and women’s tennis team events of the 34th National Games, stunning Pakistan Army in the showdowns at the PTF Tennis Complex, Garden Avenue, here on Thursday.

In the men’s final, Wapda beat Army 2-1 to claim the gold medal.

Pakistan No.1 Aqeel Khan provided Wapda a solid start by beating young Abdullah Adnan 6-2, 6-1.

Army’s Huzaifa Abdul Rehman then evened the tie by beating Muhammad Abid 6-0, 6-0. In the deciding doubles, seasoned Aqeel and Shahzad Khan defeated Huzaifa Abdul Rehman and Abdullah Adnan. Wapda’s women’s team in their corresponding final triumphed over Army 2-0 to clinch the gold medal.

Sarah Mahboob Khan edged passed upcoming Amna Ali Qayum 6-2, 6-3, while  Ushna Suhail staved off challenge from Mahin Aftab to win a three-set tough contest 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
