ASWJ to contest on three Sindh assembly seats

KARACHI: Proscribed Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) on Wednesday announced to contest on three provincial assembly seats from Pakistan seaside metropolis of Karachi in the upcoming general polls.

These seats include PS-128, Ps-129 and PS-130, informed spokesperson, who didn’t disclose as under which banner will the men from proscribed organization contest polls.

The organization chief, Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi, will contest elections on PS-128, which he narrowly lost to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) candidate, Waqar Shah, after re-polling on few polling stations in May 2013. According to earlier results Farooq was leading by thousands of vote and after final counting lost by over 100 votes.

According to spokesman a meeting presided over by Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi and attended by religious scholars and elected representatives, including Chairman UC-1-Landhi, Dr Sher Saeed, and Chairman UC-2-Landhi, Maulana Zareen Shah, labor Councilor Qari Haider Zaman and general councilor Dr Ajmal was held in Mansehra colony of the city here on Wednesday.

During the meeting all four elected representatives, who had contested the local bodies’ polls under the banner of Rah-e-Haq Party (RHP) in December 2015, suggested the name of Aurangzeb Farooqi for the PS-128 – a stronghold of the sectarian organization – which immediately was accepted.

The candidates for other two constituencies will be announced soon. Addressing the meeting Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi said his party will win Ps-128 by foiling all conspiracies against his party this time. He said that he had no enmity with people of any religion and sect and will work for the betterment of the people of the constituency irrespective of their religious, political and ethnic association.
