121 civilians killed, 322 hurt in March: CPAG

KABUL: As many as 121 civilians were killed and 322 more injured in separate incidents in various parts of the country in the month of March, the Civilian Protection Advocacy Group (CPAG) announced on Sunday.

“Civilian Protection Advocacy Group (CPAG) says that 121 civilians Martyred and 322 others injured in 15 provinces of Afghanistan from March 1, until March 31, 2018,” a press release available with Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) stated.

“Six suicide bombings, including one motor bombing, occurred in which 60 civilians were killed,” the press release said.

“Civilian casualties were increased at the beginning of this year because the month of March was proved deadlier compared to February,” it added.

“Totally 443 people were killed and injured during March with no major perpetrator of the incident identification,” the press release maintained.

“The deadliest attack happened on March 21st2018 when a suicide bomber targeted civilians who returned from the new year celebration at the Kart-i-Sakhi area of Kabul(capital),” it said.

“Responsibility for the Kabul attack was claimed by Daesh (ISIS) but there was no comment about the Suicide bombing in Helmand province. The government has not yet released information about Helmand bombing,” the press release said.

“16 civilians were martyred and over 50 others injured in a car bombing near traditional wrestling ground. The participants were coming back from the event to offer Maghrib prayer,” it added.

“The second category of civilian casualties have been registered under the targeted killing in different provinces of the country,” the press release said.

“60 other have been martyred and injured in landmine explosions, women and children are mostly the victim of such blasts,” it added.

“At least 50 more civilians were killed and injured in mortar shell fire between the Taliban and government security forces which has hit on civilian homes. Night raids conducted by the government in some areas also caused civilian casualties,” the press release stated.

“Eight civilians have been martyred and six other injured in security forces night raid in the Chaparhar district of Nangarhar province. At the same, some Security copters targeted farmers during the attack. In Kunar, one person was killed and two others were injured,” it added.

“It is worth mentioning that the first month of ongoing year was regarded as deadliest month in which 600 civilians were killed and injured, but during February 160 civilians were killed and injured,” the press release said.

“CPAG again call upon all parties to the conflict to stop killing civilians during war and ask the government to think about the education of children who have lost their family heads due to terrorist attacks,” the press release added.
