8 killed, many injured in attack on passenger bus

PESHAWAR: In the past week, many lives were lost in a series of violent incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The city of Peshawar witnessed a tragic episode of gunfire in the Police station Hashtangri area, resulting in the death of two individuals.

Additionally, eight lives were claimed in chilas and an unfortunate shooting incident in the Yakka Toot area of Peshawar took another life. Similarly over the last ten days, the police in Bannu faced three separate attacks, highlighting the increasing challenges in maintaining law and order. The most recent incident involved an armed assault on a passenger bus in Kohistan border area chilas, leaving eight dead and around 15 wounded.

The attackers, who remain unidentified, targeted a passenger bus traveling from Kohistan to Gilgit near chilas Expressing concern over these incidents, the Chief Minister of KP, Justice (Retired) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah, condemned the loss of valuable human lives. The Chief Minister lamented the tragic events and emphasized the need for enhanced security measures in border areas and along the Qaraqoram Highway. In response to the escalating violence, the Chief Minister issued directives to closely monitor the security situation in the border regions and on the Karakurram Highway.

The police have been instructed to remain vigilant and on high alert. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has contacted the Additional Chief Secretary Home and directed him to take necessary steps to keep a close eye on the law and order situation on the border areas of Kohistan and the Karakoram Highway and to keep the local police on alert for this purpose.

The Chief Minister has assured the Gilgit-Baltistan government of all kinds of support from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. Regarding the bus attack in Chilas, initial investigations have commenced, led by local authorities. The poluce confirmed the tragic outcome and assured a thorough inquiry to bring the perpetrators to justice. “Most of the people belong to all of Pakistan, including Kohistan, Peshawar, Ghizer, Chilas, Roundu, Skardu, Mansehra, Swabi and one or two people from Sindh.” DC Ahmad said two Pakistan Army soldiers were also martyred in the “cowardly act” while one personnel of the Special Protection Unit was injured as well.

In a positive development, SSP Operations Kashif Abbasi Said reported that two suspects have been apprehended in connection with the recent murders in the city. However, the search for individuals involved in other killings in Peshawar is still underway. As the region grapples with these incidents, the authorities are committed to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of the citizens. The situation remains dynamic, and efforts are ongoing to address the root causes of the violence and bring those responsible to justice.
