KABUL (Khaama Press): The Afghan Girls’ Robotics Team achieved a remarkable feat by securing the second position/silver medal for their robot’s courage and ranking 41st out of 190 participating countries at the 2023 Global Robotics World Championships.
The annual Global Robotics World Championships, which bring together thousands of students under the age of eighteen from all around the world, were hosted this year by Singapore.
The central theme of this year’s Global Robotics Competition was renewable energy, specifically hydrogen, and its impact on the planet’s future. The Afghan Girls’ Robotics Team collaborated with four students from Sweden and Canada, along with two mentors, to participate in this event.
The team achieved the remarkable feat of winning the second place/Silver medal for their robot’s courage and ranking 41st out of 190 countries participating in this competition.
Ali Mehraban, the mentor of the Afghan Robotics Team, mentioned that “other team members who are in Afghanistan or recently immigrated were unable to participate in this competition due to travel restrictions and the lack of travel permits.”
Mehraban added, “Despite educational disadvantages, financial constraints, travel bans, and limited access to educational resources, the Afghan girls were able to win the silver medal in this competition.”
He continued encouraging Afghan girls by saying, “They should not lose hope, as achieving this ranking in a global competition demonstrates that Afghan girls are talented and, with the right resources, can play a significant role in building the future of their country.”
In collaboration with team members inside and outside Afghanistan, the Afghan Girls’ Robotics Team designed a robot capable of moving, collecting renewable energy, and storing and transporting that energy.
The Afghan Robotics Team was established in 2017 and has been participating in various competitions since then, earning numerous awards.
