KABUL: The head of the National Directorate of Security, Masoom Stanekzai, the Deputy Defense Minister Yasin Zia and the Resolute Support Commander Gen. Scott Miller visited the eastern province of Nangarhar where they pledged to work together for peace and reduction of violence in the country.

“The Army, the Police, the NDS and the ABF work closely together for the security of the Afghan people in the East,” LTG Mohammad Zaman Waziri, commander of the 201st Corps said

General Miller said they have the commitment of the Resolute Support to the security forces.

“All the security forces – NDS, Army, Police, we have to work together,” said Miller. “We are also committed to peace and reducing violence. Our mission is in service of the people of Afghanistan.”

Their visit comes amid a suicide bombing that targeted a security check post in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar, which killed at least nine people and wounded 11 others.

Attaullah Khogyani, the provincial governor’s spokesman, said the suicide bombing happened in Jalalabad’s Police District Six in Familiha area.

He said that it is not known whether the victims are military or civilians.

President Ghani condemned today’s suicide bombing in Jalalabad and said “terrorists” cannot face the Afghan security forces on the battlefield, therefore, they target Afghan civilians, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.(TOLOnews)
