PESHAWAR: A divisional bench of Peshawar High Court (PHC) comprising of Justice Shakeel Ahmad and Justice Waqar Ahmad annoyed Punjab police personnel attempt to arrest Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) nominated candidate for Chief Minister slot at Punjab, on Friday.
Furthermore, PHC ordered Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for registration of First Information Report (FIR) against policemen involved in the attempt to arrest PTI nominated candidate for Chief Minister slot in Punjab and also directed to communicate the orders to Secretary’s Home.
The petitioner obtained transit bail from PHC but Punjab police in 9 vehicles had tried to arrest PTI nominated CM candidate Aslam Iqbal in front of High Court despite the court’s stopped his arrest and granted relief till 6th March, the counsel argued.
The petitioner didn’t attend Punjab’s Assembly session summoned for yesterday (on Friday) and present in Peshawar in filed Contempt of Court plea against police personnel for trying to arrest him despite PHC grant transit bail till 6th March.
In the meantime, Justice Shakeel Ahmad enquired making IGP as respondent, although, the counsel argued that the petitioner had write an application to IGP but Punjab’s police had made attempt to arrest PTI nominated candidate for Chief Minister slot. However, Justice Shakeel Ahmad remarked that police would contact concerned police station for arrest of accused present in the particular premises as per law. Additional Advocate General informed that IGP was informed that PHC had granted transit bail to Aslam Iqbal and stopped his arrest. However, Justice Shakeel Ahmad observed that why IGP didn’t filed FIR against Punjab Police Personnel and remarked that IG also responsibilities to fulfill as per law.
PHC’s divisional bench comprised of Justice Shakeel Ahmad and Justice Waqar Ahmad ordered to communicate court’s orders to IG and Secretary’s Home Punjab and directed to filed FIR against Punjab police if approached for arresting citizen without legal procedure while adjourned further hearing till 14th March.
Meanwhile, PHC’s Justice Fazal Subhan had extended interim bail of former Provincial Minister Kamran Bangash till 4th March. The counsel Ali Zaman argued that the petitioner is booked in four FIRs registered for identical offense while PHC’s had vacated his name from FIRs registered at Chitral and Kohistan.
