KARACHI: Pakistan’s senior Test batsman Azhar Ali said that the Test team didn’t perform up to the mark which cost them a 3-0 whitewash against South Africa.

Azhar while talking to the media said that the boys were prepared well ahead of the series but the things didn’t fall right for them.

“Had we performed better than this the results would have been in our favour,” said Azhar who thinks that being a senior player he also failed to lead his side from the front with the bat. Azhar, on the other hand, blamed the poor pitches in South Africa which caused serious problems for batsmen to deal with the short balls.

“There were deep cracks on the pitches which were providing uneven bounce to the bowlers,” he said.

It merits mentioning here that Azhar throughout the whole Test series against South Africa failed to do well against the short balls. He scored just 59 runs in six innings. To a query about his fitness, Azhar said that he is having through knee issue,s which creates problem for him.

“I was fit enough to play in this series and that’s why I was in the squad,” he said. “Yes I do have knee issues but I am working hard to recover from them,” he added. Azhar was quick to add that he is going to participate in the county cricket after getting signed by the English club and will try to get his lost form back. “The conditions in England always help in polishing your techniques and hopefully I will be back with more power,” said Azhar.
