Durable peace in region linked to resolution of Kashmir issue: Mahmood

Peshawar: In connection with Kashmir Solidarity Day, a rally was organized in the provincial capital Peshawar to express solidarity with the people of occupied Kashmir in their struggle against the illegal occupation and atrocities by Indian Government.

The rally was led by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan. A large number of school children, elected public representatives, political activists and government functionaries attended the rally. 

The rally started from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and ended at Governor’s House.  Participants of the rally chanted slogans against the Indian government and in support of Kashimiri people’s struggle for their right of self-determination. 

Addressing the rally, Chief Minister Mahmood Khan termed the Modi government as a fascist regime and said that Modi government had been committing oppression and brutalities in the occupied Kashmir for the last 18 months  severely violating basic human rights in a bid to deprive Kashmiris of their basic right of self determination. 

He said that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan would continue to extend political and diplomatic support to the oppressed Kashmiri people in their struggle for self-determination, and continue to do so till their independence.

The chief minister urged upon the international community and the United Nations to take notice of the atrocities perpetrated on the Kashmiri people and play their due role in giving the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination.

He further said that durable peace in the region is linked to the resolution of the Kashmir issue as per the resolutions of United Nations without which lasting peace in the region is not possible.  Mahmood Khan said that the right to self-determination and independence is the basic right of the people of Kashmir adding that the people and government of Pakistan will continue to extend moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri brothers in their struggle for freedom.

He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had raised the issue of Kashmir in the UN General Assembly very effectively and added that the present government under the leadership of Imran Khan would continue to raise the issue of Kashmir on all international forums in more effective manner.
