ECP disqualifies tehsil chairman for his long absence from council

F.P. Report

LOWER DIR: The Election Commissioner of Pakistan has disqualified the tehsil chairman Balambat Asim Shoaib of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the position was declared as vacant due to his deliberate absence without any solid reason.

According to ECP sources, tehsil chairman Balambat Asim Shoaib is wanted by the police in the May 9 riots and he is still in hiding. According to the official notification, the post of tehsil chairman Balambat has been declared vacant for three years under section 78 (2) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act 2023, so all concerned should be informed for taking further course of action as per law.

An FIR was registered against the tehsil chairman Asim Shuiab at the Balambat police station on May 10 under sections 188, 189, 148, 149, 7ATA, 341, 380, 435, 427, 440, 295 B, 186, 324, 355 PPC and the accused had been absconding since then. The ECP sought reports from the KP secretary local government, Lower Dir deputy commissioner, district election commissioner and superintendent of police and it was found that the chairman had not attended three consecutive meetings of the council that led to his disqualification under section 78 (1) and section 78 (2) of the KP local government act 2023 that reads ‘a person shall qualify to be elected or hold an elective office or membership of a local council, if he does not absent himself without reasonable cause from three consecutive meetings of the council of which he is a member’.
