Ex-senator among four killed in Bajaur blast

KHAR: Former senator Hidayatullah Khan along with three others were killed an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Bajaur on Wednesday.

Malakand Regional Police Officer Muhammad Ali Khan Gandapur confirmed the deaths and, said that the former senator’s car was targeted in an IED attack in Bajaur’s Damadola area. He told reporters that no one had claimed responsibility for the attack as of yet.

Bajaur District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmad said that the bomb disposal unit was conducting its investigation and the situation would be made clearer after its report. He added that the former senator was on the way to a by-election campaign in Damadola where he was attacked.

KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the incident and summoned a report from police authorities. All aspects of the incident should be investigated and a report should be submitted, he said

KP government spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif offered prayers for the deceased and said: “Such cowardly attacks cannot dampen our spirits.” KP Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry condemned the attack, saying that it was very unfortunate. “We will not be discouraged by such cowardly attacks. The martyrdom of the former senator and others will not go in vain,” he said, extending his condolences to the relatives of the three.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the death of Hidayatullah, a former Senator, and three other persons in Damadola, Bajaur blast.

The prime minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and for the bereaved families to bear the losses with equanimity, the PM Office Media Wing said in a press release. He also directed for identification of those responsible for the terrorist incident leading to exemplary punishment. While condemning the incident in the strongest words, the prime minister said that terrorist elements were the enemies of law and order and democracy, but could not deter the resolve of the Pakistani nation. He also reiterated the resolve to eliminate the specter of terrorism from the country.

President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the deaths of former Senator Hidayatullah and other people who lost their lives in a remote-controlled bomb blast in Bajaur.

While strongly condemning the terrorist incident, the president expressed condolences with the bereaved families, President Secretariat Press Wing said in a press release. President Zardari also prayed for the departed souls and for the bereaved families to bear the losses with fortitude.

Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has strongly condemned the remote-controlled bomb attack on the vehicle of former Senator Hidayatullah Khan in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He expressed deep grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of three individuals, including the former senator.

In a statement issued by the Media Cell Bilawal House, Chairman PPP conveyed his heartfelt condolences and solidarity with the families of those martyred in the tragic incident in the Dama Dola area of Bajaur district. “I share the grief of the families of the victims and can understand the pain of losing their loved ones at the hands of terrorists,” he stated.

Chairman Bhutto Zardari emphasized that eliminating the menace of terrorism from Pakistan should be the unanimous agenda of all democratic parties in the country. He reaffirmed the PPP’s commitment to supporting efforts to eradicate terrorism and ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
