Five more killed in rain related incidents in Dir

LOWER DIR: Torrential rains and flooded streams on Monday continued to batter parts of the Lower and Upper Dir district as five more persons including children were killed in rain related incidents in Lower Dir district.

Two minor girls and a woman were killed in such rain related incidents in Dir here the other day. According to Rescue 1122 sources four persons including two children were killed when the house of one Muslim Zada collapsed due to heavy rains and landslide at Luqman Banda village in the jurisdiction of Khall police station here on Monday.

The deceased were identified as the wife of Muslim Zada 20, his son Mujtaba Hassan 9, sisters Rahamsiat Bibi 17 and Husna Bibi 9. All of them were buried under the debris of the damaged house. Local volunteers and Rescue 1122 disaster team rushed to the site and retrieved the bodies from the debris after five hours of hectic efforts. The bodies were shifted to a nearby hospital and then handed over to the heirs. All the four persons were laid to rest at their ancestral graveyard amid moving scenes.

Similarly a pick up vehicle’s driver identified as Saleem Khan, a resident of Shamozai Swat was drowned in flood water at Shamshi Khan Talash while his son Hamza 10 was rescued by local volunteers and was shifted to the Dir Levis post Bandagai.

The Rescue 1122 divers started a search operation for the deceased’s body. The operation continued till the filing of this report. The assistant commissioner Lal Qila Noor Zali Khan along with Dir Levis Subidar Major visited the Luqman Banda victim’s family and expressed grief over the incident. The family was also provided with food and nonfood items. The AC offered fateha for the departed souls and promised to contact the provincial government for proper compensation.

Also the roof of a house caved in due to a landslide in Maidan. The house is owned by one Ibrahim Khan. The Rescue 1122 emergency team shifted the inmates to a safe location. One of the rooms of Nazir’s house also caved in at Sakhawono Asbanr in the jurisdiction of Asbanr police station. However the inmates remained unhurt.
It continued to rain heavily in parts of the Lower and Upper Dir district for the fourth consecutive day here on Monday. All roads leading to Peshawar from Timergara remained blocked for the whole day due to high flooded streams at Talash, Kharkanai and Gulabad. The Talash bypass road also remained blocked due to mudslides while the Bagh Dushkhel road was also blocked for hours due to landslides in the hilly areas. The Bagh Pengal road was later on cleared with the help of heavy machinery.

The additional deputy commissioner relief and human rights Tariq Hussain supervised the clearance operation. The motorists from and to Timergara used a narrow village road in Talash to reach their destination but traffic on it also caused misery to motorists and passengers. Local volunteers throughout the day helped the motorists in maintaining smooth traffic flow. The Badwan Chakdara road also remained blocked for all kinds of vehicular traffic due to landslides at Badwan Tarai because of heavy rains. Similarly several vehicles came under the debris during a landslide at the Darangal area of Samarbagh. The motorists remained unhurt.
