India, Pakistan agree for strict observance of all agreements, cease firing along LOC

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan and India reach breakthrough after the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGsMO) of India and Pakistan had discussions over the established mechanism of hotline contact, on Thursday.

According to the official press release of Inter Services Public Relations, during the talks the two sides reviewed the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and all other sectors in a free, frank and cordial ambiance.

Mentioning the significance of regional sustainable peace, the two DGsMO expressed the interest of achieving mutually beneficial and sustainable peace and also agreed to speak to each other’s core issues and concerns which have inclination to disturb peace and lead to violence.

The Inter Services Public Services press release also highlighted that DGsMO of both sides agreed for strict observance of all agreements, understandings and close down firing along the LoC and all other sectors.

This decision will be in effect from midnight 24/25 February, 2021, the press statement added.

Regarding the border flag meetings, both sides reiterated that existing, mechanisms of hotline contact and border flag meetings would be utilized to resolve any unforeseen situation or misunderstanding.

“In the interest of achieving mutually beneficial and sustainable peace along the borders, the two Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) agreed to address each other’s core issues and concerns which have propensity to disturb peace and lead to violence,” the ISPR statement read.

The two sides “reviewed the situation along LoC and all other sectors in a free, frank and cordial atmosphere”, adding that “Both sides agreed for strict observance of all agreements, understandings and cease firing along the LOC and all other sectors, with effect from midnight 24/25 February 21,” the official statement mentioned.

Both sides reiterated that existing, mechanisms of hotline contact and border flag meetings would be utilized to resolve any unforeseen situation or misunderstanding, the press statement mentioned.

While commenting on the huge breakthrough, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi termed the agreement “an important step” in reducing tensions in the region and a way forward towards peace

Foreign Minister Qureshi also underscored that Pakistan desired to maintain peaceful relations with all its neighbors including India; he also stated that

of all the Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) between Pakistan and India the ceasefire agreement was the most significant.
