Iran ready to host International Atomic Energy Agency chapter to discuss technical issues

MOSCOW (TASS): Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), can visit Iran at any time to discuss technical issues. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahiyan stated this on Wednesday at a joint press conference following talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
“Iran is ready to receive Mr. Grossi at any time to discuss technical issues and will welcome the corresponding decision of the head of the IAEA to make such a visit,” he said.
The head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of a proper response from the IAEA to a number of sabotages committed at the nuclear facility in Natanz, as well as attempts by the agency’s leadership to interfere in political issues. “We are unhappy with this,” he stated. “But if Mr. Grossi intends to confine himself exclusively to discussing technical issues, we are ready to organize such a visit and provide the head of the IAEA with meetings with the relevant interlocutors.”
During the UN General Assembly in New York, the Americans conveyed messages to Iranian representatives about the intentions of US President Joe Biden to implement the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian Nuclear Program (JCPOA), Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahiyan said.
“You know, when I was in New York then, I received messages through intermediaries from the Americans. The essence of these messages was that the Americans tried to emphasize that respected Mr. Biden had serious intentions to implement the JCPOA, as well as pay special attention realization of the rights and interests of the people of Iran within the framework of these agreements reached, “said the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
At the same time, according to him, it is necessary to make sure how serious the US intentions are, for example, on the question of whether “they are ready to unblock $ 10 billion of Iranian assets in foreign banks.”
The minister also noted that Tehran is summing up the details of the nuclear deal and is working on the issue of returning to negotiations in Vienna. “In the near future, we will determine the timing of the return to negotiations,” the Iranian Foreign Minister stressed.
He said that Iran is actively consulting with the participants in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program and looks forward to the early resumption of negotiations on this issue.
The head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry drew attention to the fact that the Iranian government takes an exclusively pragmatic position and is determined to search for concrete results. “We are ready to return to the negotiating table, but our partners must also take reciprocal steps and demonstrate their readiness to respect the rights and interests of the Iranian people in the implementation of the JCPOA,” the minister stressed. comply with their obligations. “
Lavrov said that “Our Iranian friends and we proceed from the assumption that the road for restoring the agreement that was approved by the UN Secu-rity Council’s Resolution 2231 lies through systematic and gradual implementation by all sides of the balance of interests it originally established. Moscow and Tehran are unanimous that the Vienna talks must be resumed as soon as possible.”
At the same time, he went on to say, there is the understanding that the negotiations are not an end but a means.
“The world community is waiting for the United States to return to the legal space of the nuclear deal and to cancel the illegal restrictions against Iran and against all of its trading and economic partners,” he said.
“We regard as hopeless and futile attempts by some countries to link the JCPOA with Tehran’s consent to compromise on some issues having nothing to do with the deal,” Lavrov stressed.
He pointed out that the situation in the region must be discussed beyond the JCPOA framework collectively at one negotiating table.
“This approach constitutes the basis of Russia’s concept of security in the Persian Gulf. This document was made public at the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council. We are calling upon the Iranian and Arab friends to keep moving closer together along the road of mutual discussions and coordination of any issues in response to the existing concerns,” he added.
