BIRMINGHAM (Agencies): Manchester City’s Argentine forward Sergio Aguero went down in English Premier League history scoring 177 league goals to be this division’s top scorer in foreigners category.
Aguero, 31, scored a hat-trick against Aston Villa as Manchester City hammered them 6-1 in Sunday’s match.
Following this extravagant victory, Manchester City came second with 47 points in the league led by Liverpool, who earned 61 points in 21 matches.
Aguero has surpassed French legendary forward Thierry Henry, who netted 175 goals in the league.
A former Arsenal hero Henry, 42, currently manages Montreal Impact, one of the Canada-based teams in the U.S. top-tier Major League Soccer division.
Aguero has been playing for Man City since July 2011.
Separately, with 177 goals, he comes fourth in the Premier League’s top scorer list of all time.
He is sharing this position with a former Chelsea veteran, Frank Lampard, who scored 177 league goals as well. The ex-England midfielder, Lampard, 41, retired from football in February 2017.
Lampard is the current manager of Chelsea.
Alan Shearer, 49, is still on top of the Premier League’s all-time top scorers list. The former Newcastle United central forward from England has scored 260 league goals in his career, a record difficult to break.
