Maqbool de-seated after rigging in polls proved

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: After rigging in the election to LA-35 Jammu-II was proved, the election tribunal de-seated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member Legislative Assembly, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chaudhry Maqbool Gujjar and ordered a re-election.

The election tribunal cancelled the notification of the success of Chaudhry Maqbool Gujjar.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Chaudhry Ismail had challenged the results in the election tribunal, alleging that the returning officer changed the results.

The judgment said that the counter files of eight polling stations were found to be empty, which is a violation of Section 60 of the Election Act.

“All this process makes the results questionable. The election in LA-35 Jammu-II should be annulled and there should be a re-election,” it added.

“The election commission should take action against the officials involved in rigging,” it recommended.

Chaudhry Jameel Jagal Advocate pursued the case on behalf of Chaudhry Muhammad Ismail.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday barred the authorities from arresting PTI legal team member Sher Afzal Marwat without prior permission of the court. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir of the IHC issued the order.

Petitioner Sher Afzal Marwat appeared before the court along with his lawyer Qazi Adil Advocate.

The court sought the details of the cases registered against Sher Afzal Marwat from parties in the case including the police.

“Also tell whether the name of Sher Afzal Marwat is placed on the exit control list (ECL) or not,” it ordered and adjourned further hearing of the case till Friday.(NNI)
