Mohmand District with two gold medals win general trophy in Inter-Madrasas Games

PESHAWAR: Mohmand District clinched the general trophy after two gold medals after winning gold medal in volleyball and Qirat competition in the Inter-Madrasas Games of the Merged Tribal Areas, which concluded here on Saturday.

Secretary Sports Captain (retd) Mushtaq Ahmad was the chief guest on this occasion. Director Sports Merged Areas Pir Abdullah Shah, District Sports Officer Sub-Division Dara Adam Khan Sajid Khan Afridi, DSP Amjad Khan, Secretary General Merged Areas Volleyball Association Khursheed Iqbal, Coordinator Awan Hussain, Raid Gul Molagori, Director Events Ayub Khan, players, officials and large number of spectators were also present.

The players of Mohmand district claimed the major trophy by winning gold medals in two different events – Volleyball and Qirat competitions by giving excellent performances. Khyber district won the trophy of football by defeating sub-division Kohat 6-5 on penalty shoot-out after a sensational match of the football final organized at Tahamas Khan Football Stadium. Qari Mohammad Ehsan of Mohmand district won the first position, Qari Mohibullah of Khyber district won the second position and Jahanzeb Ali of Karam district won the third position.

After Mohmand, Bajaur got second position by winning gold in Tug-of-War and silver medal in cricket while Khyber remained at third after winning gold medal in football event. It should be noted that last year the children of the religious madrasas of Bajaur performed beyond the expectations and came first in cricket, badminton, tug-of-war, volleyball and second in athletics shot put competition. The general trophy was won by getting the position. North Waziristan was second and Khyber was third.

In the final held at PSB Gymnasium Hall, district Mohmand defeated Peshawar sub-division by 3-2 after a sensational contest. The score was 23-25, 27-29, 25-22, 25-21 and 15-11. In the cricket final held at Islamia College University ground wherein Peshawar defeated Bajaur by 8 wickets. Bajaur won the toss and batted first and scored 72 runs, in which Abdul Rehman scored 18 runs and Waqas scored 15 runs.

In response, Peshawar sub-division achieved the target at the loss of two wickets.
On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Islamia College University Prof. Gul Majeed Khan distributed prizes among the players along with Director Sports Pir Abdullah Shah Islamia College Director Sports Ali Hoti. AD Sports Raheed Gul Malagori and other personalities were present.

Talking to the media Vice Chancellor Islamia College Peshawar Gul Majeed Khan appreciated Director Sports Merged Areas and his teams for successfully holding five different events during the second Inter-Madrasas Games.

Secretary Sports Captain (Rtd) Mushtaq Ahmed said that Madrasas Games aim to attract Madrasas students towards sports activities. The Madrasas students should be encouraged as sports are very important for mental and physical development. He said that there was a general impression that students of madrasas were not interested in sports, which the participation of a large number of students in these games proved that the students of madrasas were no less than anyone else and had their own interest in sports as well as academic activities.

Mushtaq Ahmad said that he is grateful to the scholars who contributed to make this event a success. He said that games will be organized for the students of other Madrasas of the province like the merged districts in future.
