Multan Sultans pick Russell to replace Smith

LAHORE: Pakistan Super League franchise Multan Sultans on Thursday picked West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell as a replacement for former Australian skipper Steve Smith, who was due to be in action but was ruled out with an elbow injury.

The Sultans, now owned by Ali Tareen, also picked James Vince for Joe Denly, as the PSL teams announced their replacements for the upcoming fourth edition of the T20 league.

Lahore Qalandars picked Hardus Viljoen and David Wiese as cover for the partial availability of AB de Villiers, Carlos Brathwaite and Corey Anderson. Quetta Gladiators picked Dwayne Smith as cover for DJ Bravo in the initial matches.

Peshawar Zalmi replaced Afghanistan’s Waqar Salamkheil with Windies batsman Andre Fletcher.

In their squad expansion announcement, Lahore Qalandars chose middle-order batsman Saad Ali and Multan Sultans picked all-rounder Hammad Azam.

Mohammad Irfan Jr went to Quetta Gladiators and left-arm spinner Umer Khan was picked by Karachi Kings.

Defending champions Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi are yet to submit their squad expansion picks.
