Sacking of Mohaqiq termed against accord of political settlement

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: Terming the sacking of second deputy chief executive Mohammad Mohaqiq as a violation to the agreement signed for the formation of National Unity Government, the Chief Executive’s office said on Thursday that creation of instability was not in the favor of any side.

It is pertinent to mention here that President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani sacked second chief executive Muhammad Mohaqiq through a presidential ordinance. The presidential office did not disclose reason of his sacking. However, it was learnt that Mohaqiq was sacked after Muhammad Hanif Atmar nominated him as candidate for second deputy president in his team for upcoming presidential election.

According to a press release issued by the chief executive’s office, creation of instability was not in the interest of any side.

The National Unity Government had been formed between two leading contesting teams of presidential election in the presence of foreign observers in 2014 for the creation of legitimate government, ensuring stability, political consensus, reforms, cooperation and joint decisions.

As per the accord, the press release stated that it had been agreed that the setup would continue working till the formation of next legitimate government.

The sacking of second chief executive officer Muhammad Mohaqiq was in contradiction with the agreement inked for the formation of National Unity Government, the press release stated.

Any kind of one-side decision taken against the morale of the National Unity Government in the prevailing sensitive moments would damage joint cooperation and create instability, the press release said.

Mohammad Mohaqiq has not said anything in this regard so far. (AIP)
