DUBAI: Not a single Pakistan player was able to make a cut into the recently unveiled International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20I Team of the Year 2023.

The apex cricketing body recognised 11 players across the globe, who impressed with either their batting, bowling or all-round exploits throughout 2023.

ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year 2022 Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side which features his three compatriots Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh.
Jaiswal was named the opener alongside England’s Phil Salt.

The young Indian opener, who made his debut in August 2023, accumulated 430 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 159 while Salt finished with 394 runs in just eight innings over the year, averaging 56.28 and striking at 169.09.

Hard-hitting West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran was placed at Number 3, followed by skipper Yadav at number four, who scored two centuries in the previous year and led the side in the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma.

New Zealand’s leading run-scorer in T20Is in 2023, Mark Chapman secured the fifth spot in the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year 2023 while Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza was placed at number six.

Chapman finished 2023 with 576 at 44.30 and with a strike rate of 141.87 while Raza exhibited his all-round brilliance throughout the year. The side boasts two more all-rounders Uganda’s Alpesh Ramjani and Ireland’s Mark Adair at number seven and eight respectively.

Uganda’s Ramjani led the world in T20I wickets for the year (55 at an economy of just 4.77) across 30 matches, and was a thorn in the side for opposition bowling attacks, scoring 449 runs at 28.06 (strike rate 132) down the order.

Adair made his mark in 2023, taking 26 wickets at an economy of 7.42, taking a wicket every 13 deliveries.

India’s Ravi Bishnoi, alongside Zimbabwe’s Richard Ngarava and fellow Indian Arshdeep Singh, will complete the bowling attack.

Arshdeep bagged 26 wickets in 21 innings for India in 2023, while Bishnoi picked up 18.
