PIA making efforts to overcome DOC losses on international routes

ISLAMABAD: The national flag carrier, Pakistan International Airline (PIA) faced 5 billion rupees loss in category of direct operating cost (DOC) on 19 flights around the word from period of Jan-Dec 2019 the documents available with The Frontier Post spotlighted.

The documents added that the reason of making loss is high operating cost.

The documents further revealed that the national carrier is facing highest loss on (Pakistan-Paris-Barcelona-Pakistan) flights and in previous year PIA faced 939 million losses on these flights.

The next highest loss making flight is, (Pakistan-Milan-Paris-Paki-stan) on which the national exchequer received a loss of 747 million rupees.

The documents mentioned another flight which is making highest loss to the national exchequer is of (Pakistan-Beijing-Tokyo- Beijing-Pakistan) the loss facing by the national exchequer on these flights are 738 million rupees.

The documents mentioned another flight on which the national exchequer is receiving 556 million losses which is (Pakistan-Toronto-Pakistan).

Another highest loss making flight is (Karachi-London-Karachi) on which the airline is facing 552 million rupees losses.

The documents adding that the national flag carrier is facing loss of 418.4 million losses on flight operating from Islamabad to London and from London to Islamabad.

Its pertained to mentioned here that the Minister of Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan and CEO of the airline Arshad Malik in parliamentary committees argued that due to their efforts the national airline is coming out of financial losses but parliamentarians from various political parties denied their claims and argued that the national flag carrier is facing still highest losses while the documents available predicted the same losses mentioned by parliamentarians.

Another loss making flight is (Pakistan-Oslo-Copenhagen-Pakistan) on which the loss figures are 267 million rupees.

Another losing making flight is (Pakistan-Copenhagen-Oslo-Pakistan) on which national exchequer is getting loss of 207 million rupees.

The documents added that another loss making flight is of (Sialkot-London-Sialkot) on which the national airline received a loss of 107 million rupees.

Another flight of (Lahore-London-Lahore) is getting a loss of 143 million rupees.

The documents mentioned another loss making flight of (Faisalabad-Jeddah-Faisalabad) receiving loss of 129 million rupees.

Other loss making flights is (Turbat-Mucat-Turbat) receiving loss of 88 million rupees, Turbat-Sharjah-Turbat flight receiving 66 million rupees loss. Documents adding (Islamabad-Jeddah-Islamabad) flight is receiving 58 million rupees loss as well Karachi-Dammam-Karachi) receiving 49 million rupees loss. The documents added that (Sialkot-Riyadh-Sialkot) flights are receiving loss of 32 million rupees as well (Sialkot-Dammam-Sialkot) and (Quetta-Jeddah-Quetta) flight receiving 10 million rupees loss.
