Police drive away Hammad Azhar’s father moments before PTI rally in NA-129

F.P. Report

LAHORE: Former Punjab Governor and senior PTI leader Mian Azhar was arrested by the police on Sunday as he was about to lead a rally in his constituency of NA-129 in connection with the Feb 8 elections.

The news was shared by his son and PTI’s Punjab chapter general secretary Hammad Azhar on X, formerly Twitter.

“Have some shame, Nawaz Sharif,” Hammad Azhar wrote on X, and announced that his 82-years-old father has been arrested.

“He wanted to lead a rally as per his democratic and constitutional right. Pakistan has today been reduced to a total fascist state with zero human rights or rule of law. One Nawaz Sharif & his daughter calling the shots and ruining the country,” Hammad wrote on X.

He urged the workers of PTI to continue the rally as per the schedule.

Earlier, Hammad Azhar was the candidate from NA-129 but his nomination papers were rejected. In the absence of Hammad, the veteran politician and former Punjab Governor Mian Azhar once again entered the politics after two decades.

The founder chairman of PTI has earlier directed the party workers to hold rallies across the country on Sunday (today) in connection with the Feb 8 polls.

It would be the first power show of PTI since May 9 riots.
