ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Monday barred the federal government from making new recruitment in state-run hospitals.
A three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar heard of a case pertaining to medical treatment facilities offered by the government hospitals in the federal capital.
During the course of proceedings, the CJP remarked that an oxygen cylinder worth Rs 5,000 was bought for Rs 22,000 for use in hospitals and it was a big development that Rs 30 million had been recovered on that count.
The Supreme Court appointed Dr Fazal Mola head of NIRM Hospital.
The chief justice observed that without the court’s intervention nothing was done and asked Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary as to why Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences did not have a chief as yet.
The minister replied that the post had been abolished, which had now been reinstated.
Justice Ijazul Ahsan remarked that the Islamabad’s biggest hospital was running without a head.
Tariq Fazal Chaudhary said the summary of the appointment of an executive director for PIMS was sent to the prime minister on Thursday.
The court remarked that people wanted to contest elections in the country through jobs and directed the government to halt recruitment in hospitals.
CJP Mian Saqib Nisar remarked only two months of the sitting government are left. When new government comes it will see the matters of new appointments.
Those who get jobs their families will become your voters. We will not allow any one to make people voters through appointments.
He further remarked “quorum is not completed in parliament.
Official works are not completed. Then they say that court interferes.
The additional attorney general (AAG) informed the court that a summary for appointing the heads of PIMS and Polyclinic has been sent to the prime minister’s office. He added that the premier, who is abroad, will return today and approve the summary in a day or two.
The chief justice remarked that they can summon the prime minister’s principal secretary Fawad Hasan Fawad to ask him about the matter.
Later, the case was adjourned till date in office.
